Marilyn Yvonne Monks, 88, of Jefferson City, passed away Sunday, October 6, 2024, at Jefferson City Manor.
She was born July 30, 1936, in Truman, Arkansas, the daughter of John Curtis and Wilma Lorene (Futrell) Crain.
On March 31, 1995, in South Carolina, Marilyn married Thomas Monks who preceded her in death.
She joined the Missouri National Guard and serve for six years.
Marilyn began her career as a church secretary in St. Louis. She later worked for the Missouri Southern Baptist Association, Missouri National Guard, and retired from Missouri Department of Economic Development as an Administrative Assistant.
Marilyn was an active member of Capital West Christian Church. She volunteered with CASA and Capital Region Medical Center. She was a strong supporter of the Rape and Abuse Crisis Service in Jefferson City, Pro-Life movement, and active in her political views. Most of all, Marilyn loved to spend time with her family especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include three sons, Scott (Anita) York, Raytown, MO; Steven (Cindy) York, Holts Summit; Shawn (Michelle) York, Jefferson City; son-in-law, Dennis Fred, Macon, MO; nine grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; and three siblings, Sonny (Nancy) Crain, Brookland, AR; Nina (Ben) Nelms, Oklahoma City, OK; and Marty Crain, Brookland, AR.
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Suzanne Fred; a sister, Joyce Elder; and two brothers, Ron Crain and Buddy Crain.
Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday, October 19, 2024, at Capital West Christian Church. A memorial service will follow at 12 p.m. with Pastor Ken Harland officiating.
Memorials are suggested to the Jefferson City Rape and Abuse Crisis Service or to the National Right to Life Committee.
