Marvin Leo Talken, 78, of Taos, passed away Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born on March 24, 1948, in Jefferson City, the son of Alvin and Esther (Prenger) Talken.
He was a 1966 graduate of Fatima High School and a graduate of State Technical College of Missouri in Linn, Missouri.
Marvin served his country in the United States Army Reserves.
On January 22, 1972, in Jefferson City, Marvin was united in marriage to Emily Anne Vogel who preceded him in death on June 29, 2011.
Marvin worked from 1968-1971 for the Missouri Conservation Department and Frank Twehous Excavating Company from 1972-1984. In 1984, Marvin became co-owner of Stockman Construction until his retirement in 2005. In his retirement years, he worked part time for Wilbers Excavating.
He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, past President of the Parish Council, and a charter member and former Grand Knight of the Taos Knights of Columbus. Committed to his community, Marvin served on the Taos City Council as an Alderman for over twenty years, was a member of the Planning and Zoning Board, and a member of the Board of Adjustment.
Marvin loved being with his family and friends, especially during summer holiday gatherings at Dove Lake, where countless memories were made. He especially loved traveling with his wife, Emily, and treasured the many adventures they shared together. Marvin took great pride in the Taos community, often making rounds in his Ranger to check on the American flags displayed throughout Taos. His devotion to family, community, and the simple joys of life will be remembered by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his two sons, Matthew Talken, Taos; and Stephen Talken, Phoenix, AZ; six siblings, Rose (Nick) Rackers, Taos; Mary Jo (Jim) Broderick, St. Louis; Sharon (John) Rackers, Taos; Don (Cheryl) Talken, Taos; Ron (Peggy) Talken, Taos; and Gary (Kelly) Talken, Taos; two sisters-in-law, Edith Vogel, and Kim Vogel; and a brother-in-law, Alan Mengwasser, all of Jefferson City.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Emily; a niece, Corrie Talken; a brother-in-law, Carl Vogel; and a sister-in-law, Rose Mengwasser.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Monday, June 22, 2026, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Taos with a prayer service at 3 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church with the Rev. Kelechi Uzuegbu officiating.
Burial with military honors will be in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are encouraged to the From the Heart Charitable Foundation, St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, or St. Francis Xavier Catholic School.
