Marvin Fred, 82 of Russellville passed away on Monday, February 14, 2022 at Stonebridge Oak Tree Senior Living, Jefferson City.
He was born April 5, 1939 in Sesser, IL to the late Morton and Mary Jane (Bilbrey) Fred. Marvin was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. With extensive sniper training, Marvin served with the Military Police. After his honorable discharge, Marvin worked in telecommunications with GTE and later with ALCTEL TelCom in Los Angeles, CA. While living in California, Marvin enjoyed painting, sketching, surfing and riding his dirt bike. Marvin later moved to Missouri working as a telephone engineer for the Missouri Public Service Commission. While working at Public Service, Marvin met his future wife Carol “Gay” Crawford. They were married at Chapel of the Angels in Eureka Springs, AR on February 15, 2003. Whether it was feeding the hummingbirds, taking a walk with his camera in the woods, riding his motorcycle or just being outside with his dogs, Rusty and Shawnee, Marvin loved being surrounded by nature. If you couldn’t find Marvin outside, you could find him shooting clay pigeons. Marvin was a competitive target shooter winning many first and second place ribbons on a national, state and local level. He was an active member of the Jefferson City Sportsman’s Club and the California Shooters Club.
Survivors include his wife, Gay of Russellville, two children, Mark Wade Fred of Salmon, Idaho and Debora “DeeDee” Hart of Phoenix, AZ, stepson, Matthew Smith of Jefferson City, six grandchildren, two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Marvin was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Betty Lou Leonhardt.
Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., Friday, February 18, 2022, at Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Homes in Russellville.
A 2:00 p.m. graveside service will follow at Enloe Cemetery.
