Mary Jo Distler, 66, of Jefferson City, passed away Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at Capital Region Medical Center surrounded by her family.

She was born April 15, 1957, in Jefferson City, the daughter of the late Leroy Louis and Dorothy Marie (Neutzler) Wegman.

Mary was a 1975 graduate of Jefferson City High School.

Mary was united in marriage on February 25, 1977, at the Cathedral of St. Joseph to Donald Distler who survives at the home.

Mary worked at the Little Explorer Discovery Center.

She enjoyed watching children at the daycare, going on family vacations to the beach, watching soap operas like Young and the Restless and she loved to read.

Survivors include her husband, Don; children, Jason Distler, Adam (Patti) Distler, and Amanda (John) Huhn; three grandchildren, Madison Distler, Elizabeth Dunn and Jeremy Dunn; three step grandchildren, Hannah Huhn, Dylan Huhn and Mason Huhn; and siblings, Sr. Kathleen Wegman, SSND, Carol (Gary) Meyer, Janet (Wayne) Chinn, and Mark (Tracy) Wegman.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation will be from 12 noon to 1 p.m. Saturday, January 20, 2024, at Trimble Funeral Homes in Jefferson City, followed by a Prayer Service at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Msgr. Robert A. Kurwicki, VG officiating.

Memorials are suggested to Little Explorer Discovery Center.

  8. I was so sorry to hear the passing of Mary Jo. I’ve known her since we were five years old. She was very sweet and a lot of fun. The only time she was mean was when we were playing tether ball. I still carry the bruises. So sad when a childhood friend passes.

  11. Just found out about Mary Jo’s passing. I send my condolences to her family. She was a very special person and I will always cherish the memory of enjoying her birthday party in 8th grade. Mary Jo treated everyone with respect. I was blessed to attend St Joseph Grade School with her and graduate from JCHS with her. May she enjoy perpetual happiness with her Saviour.
