Matilda Catherine Tillie Scheppers, 89, of Taos, died Tuesday, April 29, 2008, at Westphalia Retirement Center. She was born on January 25, 1919, in Jefferson City, the daughter of John and Antonia Veltrop Sandt. She was united in marriage on April 18, 1939, in Taos, to Alvin Herman Scheppers. He preceded her in death on Dec. 25, 1978. A homemaker all of her life, she had worked for Tweedie Shoe Factory for seven years. She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church and St. Anns Sodality. Tillie enjoyed crocheting and gardening. Survivors include: one daughter and son-in-law, Margie and Charlie Luebbert, Westphalia; one granddaughter and husband, Cynthia J. and Brian J. Werdehausen, Taos; and a sister at heart, Geraldine and husband Louie Prenger. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; infant grandson, William George Luebbert; a sister, Frances Luebbert; and a brother, Herbert Sandt. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Friday, May 2, 2008, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Taos, with the Rev. J. David Maher officiating. Burial will be in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday, May 1, 2008, at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Additional visitation will be 10-11 a.m. Friday at the church.
