Nelson Lilburn Howard, Jr., 68, of Russellville, passed away Wednesday, May 16, 2018, at his residence. He was born August 1, 1949, in Jefferson City, the son of the late Nelson Lilburn and Norma Jean (Green) Howard, Sr. A 1967 graduate of Russellville High School, he attended one year of college at the University of Missouri, Rolla, before entering the United States Army. He served his country in the Military Intelligence division during the Vietnam War. He was united in marriage on April 8, 1971, to Rebecca Marie Lock, in Herzogenauarach, Germany. Nelson retired from the Missouri State Highway Patrol-Division of Drug and Crime Control after thirty-five years of service. He also worked part-time for H&R Block and USDA Ag Census. He enjoyed farming and shared his passion and knowledge for such with his children and grandchildren. He was a member of the Young Farmers and spent several years as a 4-H youth leader in Shooting Sports and Beef. Nelson served on the Osage County Fair Board and as the Beef Show Superintendent. He was also a member of the Board of Directors for the Highway Credit Union. Survivors include his wife, Rebecca Howard, of the home; daughter, Jamie (Christopher) Eiken, Russellville; sons, Adam (Ginger) Howard, Russellville; and Bradley (Stephanie) Howard, St. Martins; five grandchildren, Emma Eiken, Clayton Eiken, Jacob Howard, Brendon Howard, and Skylar Howard; one sister, Martha Howard, Russellville; four brothers, Michael Howard, Russellville; James Howard, Russellville; Marcus (Betty) Howard, Jefferson City; and Robert (Kay) Howard, Holts Summit. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Rachael Elizabeth Howard; and a sister, Nancy Howard. Visitation will be 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, May 19, 2018, at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home with a prayer service at 3:30 p.m. A Funeral Service will be 2 p.m., Sunday, May 20, 2018, at St. Michael Catholic Church in Russellville with the Rev. Louis M. Nelen officiating. Military honors will be held after the funeral service. Memorials are suggested to St. Judes Childrens Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105; St. Michael Catholic Church, 13321 Railroad Ave., Russellville, MO 65074; or St. Martin Catholic Church, 7148 St. Martins Blvd., Jefferson City, MO 65109.

He was a true support system to me when we worked together at FFCU . I Will always remember him fondly I’m sure he and my Dad are talking horses and livestock.
