Paul Frederick Oligschlaeger

paul oligschlaeger

Paul Oligschlaeger, age 81, passed peacefully at the University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia, Missouri on the evening of Monday, November 13th surrounded by his family.

He was born at St. Mary’s Hospital in Jefferson City on August 5th, 1942, the son of Lawrence William and Ursaline Cecelia (Wilde) Oligschlaeger.  Paul was raised in St. Elizabeth, Missouri.

He graduated high school from St. Elizabeth R-IV in 1960 and attended Cardinal Glennon Seminary from 1960-1962.

He married his wife of 58 years, Margaret Ann (Schulte) Oligschlaeger, in Mary’s Home, Missouri on July 24th, 1965, at Our Lady of Snows Catholic Church.

Paul was a long-time entrepreneur and dedicated to his work, both as owner and employee.  He retired in December 2022 after 20 years of service to the Knights of Columbus as an Insurance Agent.  Prior to the Knights of Columbus, he was a Finance Manager at Thrifty Finance, a broker at International Securities, the owner of Quality Wholesales Distributing, and the owner of Miller Recycling Service.  Paul was also a veteran, serving 6 years in the army reserves.

A man of faith and family, he was well known around his community and church.  He was a member of the Cathedral of St. Joseph, Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem, Knights of Columbus Bishop McAuliffe Council 12992, and the Dan C. Coppin Fourth Degree Assembly Knights of Columbus.

Paul was quick-witted, with a sharp mind and a joke at the ready, especially when his grandchildren came to visit him.  A folded-up piece of paper with untold jokes was found in his wallet, and the jokes were read to him by his grandchildren in his final days.  His hobbies and pastimes include date nights with his wife at Theo’s, cooking and grilling, being a happy and gracious host to family and friends, gardening and maintaining his yard, fishing and hunting, cattle farming, raking and bailing hay, Mizzou and Chiefs football, St. Louis Cardinals baseball and attending opening day, playing his favorite card game, 10-point Pitch, at the dinner table, and any activity with his family.  His homemade pizza was unmatched and loved by many.  He could never turn down Rocky Road ice cream from Central Dairy or a good bowl of popcorn.

He is survived by his wife Margaret; sons, Fr. Greg Oligschlaeger and Kevin (Brittany) Oligschlaeger; daughters, Jill (Rodney) Bouwens and Lynn (James) Mealey; grandchildren, Garrett, Landon, Jillian, Kate, Brady and Brynlee; siblings, Betty (Gilbert) Schellman, Bob (Carla) Oligschlaeger, Carol (John) Otto, Donna Joannes; and sister-in-law, Mary Oligschlaeger, wife of Paul’s brother, Mark.

He is preceded by his parents Lawrence William Oligschlaeger and Ursuline (Wilde) Oligschlaeger; granddaughter, Amelia Mae Oligschlaeger; brother, Mark Oligschlaeger; father and mother-in-law, Fred and Martha Schulte; and sister and brother-in-law Marlene and Larry Luetkemeyer.
