Robert "Bob" Berhorst

Robert J. “Bob” Berhorst, 92, of Russellville passed away on Sunday, February 9, 2025 surrounded by his family at Good Shepherd Care Center, Versailles.
He was born June 24, 1932 in Linn to the late Leo and Clara (Otto) Berhorst. One of ten children, Bob grew up in Linn and attended St. George Catholic School. He served during the Korean War with the U.S. Army Military Police. After returning home, Bob became a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service and served as treasurer for the postal union. He retired after 30 years of service. On November 24, 1971, Bob married Judith Ann (McKinney) Lute at the Cathedral of St. Joseph, Jefferson City. They made their home in Russellville and attended St. Martin Catholic Church.
Extremely patriotic, Bob was a member of VFW Post 4756, Linn and had served as Past Commander. He was also past Commander and Quartermaster for Missouri VFW District 2. For years, Bob and his family made it their mission to visit the many cemeteries in Osage County and Resurrection Cemetery honoring all deceased veterans by placing a flag on each of their graves for Memorial Day.
Bob took great pride in helping develop boys into young men, volunteering his time with the Boy Scouts of America. He had served as Scoutmaster for Linn Troop 17, Assistant Scoutmaster for St. Martin Troop 12 and for Jefferson City Troop 5. Bob was recognized by the Boy Scout council with the Silver Beaver award given to an adult leader who made an impact on the lives of youth through service.
In his free time, Bob enjoyed fishing, watching the St. Louis Cardinals and camping with the Scouts. He was an avid bowler for over 50 plus years. You could also find Bob working in his yard and garden. He loved spending time with his family and was always there to lend a hand in whatever project his kids had going.
Survivors include his wife, Judy of Russellville; three children, Jeff (Tracy) Lute of Lohman, Doug (Ginger) Lute of Russellville, Tony (Mona) Berhorst of Jefferson City; five siblings, Leona Mengwasser of Jefferson City, Richard Berhorst of Linn, Ronald (Brenda) Berhorst of Holts Summit, Elizabeth “Betty” (Steve) Gentges of Linn, Patricia Knapheide of Jefferson City; five grandchildren, Cody Lute, Morgan (Jordan) Eichholz, McKenzie (Mason) Bilyeu, Kyle (Kayla) Lute, Jonathan Scott; three great grandchildren, Jameson, Hudson, Jackson and brother-in-law, Chuck Mulpas of Illinois. Bob was further preceded in death by two sisters; Leoba (Clem) Mengwasser and Mary Ann Mulpas; two brothers, John (Georgie) Berhorst and James (Helen) Berhorst; sister-in-law; Julie Berhorst and two brothers-in-law; Alfred Mengwasser and Kenny Knapheide.
Visitation will be Friday, February 14, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. until Noon at St. Martin Catholic Church. The Mass of Christian Burial will follow at Noon with Reverend Brad Berhorst and Reverend Jason Doke concelebrating. Burial will take place in the spring at Resurrection Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted at the church immediately following the Mass.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Martin Catholic School.
