Dr. Robert James Bradley, 91, of Jefferson City, passed away peacefully at Heisinger Bluffs on June 16, 2024.

Dr. Bradley, or Bob as he was known to friends and family, was born on May 20, 1933, in Saint Louis, Missouri to Thomas Patrick Bradley and Anne Kausch Bradley.

Bob graduated from Normandy High School, received his Bachelor of Science in Business and Athletics from Truman State University (then Northeast Missouri State Teachers College), and received his PhD from the University of Iowa. While at Truman, he was very active in athletics, campus and fraternity life, playing varsity football, and serving as president of his fraternity, Phi Sigma Epsilon. Bob was a founder and first president of the campus Catholic Newman Club.

After teaching business courses at Truman State University, Bob accepted a position in 1971 with the Missouri State Highway Patrol as Director of Information Systems. While at the Patrol, he pioneered developments in law enforcement computer systems, including the nationally recognized Missouri Uniform Law Enforcement System (MULES), providing data to state, county and municipal departments from FBI and Interpol databases, as well as from other states.

In 1993, he retired from the Patrol and worked for an additional four years in a similar capacity for the Missouri Supreme Court. He also served a term as Chairman of SEARCH, The National Consortium for Justice Information and Statistics.

Throughout his life, Bob enjoyed many activities and hobbies, such as sports of all kinds, especially football and basketball, boating, water skiing, family float trips, golf, woodturning and maintaining his four-acre property and “red barn house” that he loved dearly. He was an avid reader and always had a keen interest in political, technological and medical developments. Spending time with family was his greatest joy.

Bob was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church since moving to Jefferson City, and served as President of the School Board, both for Immaculate Conception Catholic School and for Helias High School, and frequently served in mass as Eucharistic Minister. Bob and his wife Judy were founders of Missouri Citizens for Life.

Bob is survived by his wife Judy Beltzer Bradley, brother Patrick (Ann) Bradley, sister Carole (Wayne) Vandergriff; son Sean (Beth) Bradley, daughter Dr. Anne Bradley, son Brian (Gina) Bradley, son Michael Bradley (Skya Boudousquie); and grandchildren Glen Bradley, Ben Bradley, Siobhan Bradley and Logan Bradley. He was predeceased by his parents Thomas and Anne Bradley, brother Thomas (Sandy) Bradley, sister Julie Lawrence, sisters-in-law Marilyn Bradley and June Bruner, and brothers-in-law Ron Lawrence and Ben (Pat) Beltzer.

Friends, relatives and acquaintances are invited to commemorate Bob’s life on June 29, 2024, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11 a.m. with Rev. Matthew Flatley officiating. Wheelchair access is available at both the front and rear of the church through the attached Annex.

In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Samaritan Center (www.midmosamaritan.org) locally, or to the Catholic Newman Center at Truman State University (www.newmantruman.org).

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Deepest condolences and prayers for the Bradley family. My Father in Law, Ben Backes worked with Dr. Bradley at the Patrol and I remember seeing him at my Dad in law’s retirement party. Sending prayers ❤️🙏

  2. Judy and family, I am deeply saddened at Bob’s passing and the tremendous loss to your family. Please know that you are all in my prayers and have my deepest condolences. Bob was a person of great character, and he was an inspiration and tremendous mentor to many of us who passed through the doors of ISD at the Patrol. His pursuit of excellence in the criminal justice and information sharing field was admirable and his dedication to that pursuit did and continues to serve the Patrol, the State of Missouri and the United States in ways few could emulate. I am so blessed to have had the opportunities to experience Bob’s wisdom and commitment to just doing the right thing. I have benefited greatly in my life from the example of his life and am proud to have had Bob as a friend. My prayer is that God will bless you and your family with comfort and peace, and I am confident that Bob is gazing upon the countenance of God and standing in the presence of Jesus Christ.

  3. Judy & family. I was shocked to hear of Bob’s death. I know he will be a great loss to you all and you will miss him deeply.
At this sad time, i would like you to know that we are all thinking of and praying for you and your family. I have many very fond and happy memories of Bob’s first visit to Ireland when he was stationed in Germany and later in life with you too. Bob was a true gentleman and very talented and I know he will be greatly missed. You have my deepest sympathy.

  4. While Dr. Bradley was not known to us on a personal basis, we have been fortunate to be acquainted with and be friends to his grandson, William Logan Bradley. Logan expressed to us to his sadness for this loss of his grandfather, and how he looked forward to being with his father and brother at the Saturday funeral in Jefferson City. Logan is a fine young man, polite, gracious, caring, and liked by his co-workers and admired by his friends. He is makes “gentle” in “gentleman” come alive in the way he lives his life and expresses his feelings for others. Our sincere condolences are extended to his father, mother, grandmother Judy, and him during this time of grief.

  5. Bob’s warmth and sense of humor was well known. He was such a pleasure, with whom to enjoy life. Although I wasn’t able to see him frequently, I looked forward to the times I saw him. He was a wonderful man, bringing light to those around him, until he moved on to heaven. I will miss him and watching the way he loved Judy.

  6. Condolences to Judy and all the Bradley family. Bob was a true gentleman and I know you will all miss him so much.
We have great memories of Bob and Judy’s visits to Athy, and our home in Greystones. Always a pleasure to spend time with you both. We ll treasure those memories. Lovely to see all the photos in Bob’s tribute and delighted to see Mum (Anne May) included in it. Special friendships.

Thinking of Judy, and all the Bradley family, at this very sad time. X
