Robert Joseph Fuzzy Mankin, 67, of Jefferson City, died Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2006, at Capital Region Medical Center. He was born on Oct. 27, 1938, in Harrison, AR, the son of Oscar Lawrence and Lena Mae Wright Mankin. He was a 1957 graduate of Jefferson City Senior High School and attended Southeast Missouri State University at Cape Girardeau before starting a career at his fathers restaurant, Oscars Steak House. When the business was sold in 1971, he was employed with the Missouri Department of Corrections and the Missouri National Guard. In 1994, he designed and opened the kitchen facilities for the new Ike Skelton Training Site and served as director of the dining hall. In his youth, he excelled at playing sports, especially football, and was a volunteer coach for Blair Oaks in the 1970s. Fuzzy was an avid coin collector and enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family. Upon retirement he enjoyed participating in the management activities of his sons new restaurant, Oscars Classic Diner, serving as both culinary expert and kitchen guru. Fuzzy enjoyed people and made an impression on everyone he met with his warm nature and spirited stories. Survivors include one daughter, Mandy Mankin, St. Louis; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Kurtis and Lisa Mankin, Jefferson City; and Travis Mankin, Jefferson City; four grandchildren, Shea Mankin, Aaron Mankin, Ryan Mankin, and Jace Mankin; and one brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Joyce Mankin, Brookings, OR. Mass of Christian Burial will be 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, 2006, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with the Rev. M. Brendan Griffey officiating.
