Rose Virginia Dorge, 90, of Jefferson City, passed away on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at The Timbers in Holts Summit.

She was born on August 12, 1935, in Callaway County, the daughter of Frank and Rose (Kliethermes) Knaebel.

Rose was united in marriage to George Dorge in Jefferson City on July 2, 1955, who survives at the home.

She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church.

Rose was a loving homemaker and later worked for the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

She enjoyed the outdoors; camping, fishing, gardening and her flowers were always beautiful. Rose was a lover of animals and spent many hours on the porch watching the birds; especially the hummingbirds; squirrels and the neighbor’s chickens who would wander in the yard and eat the food she put out. She even liked watching the groundhog that lived under the garden shed in the backyard. She would watch from the porch and smile with excitement whenever one of the kids, grandkids, great grandkids, or even the granddogs would pull into the driveway, this is when she would show her special kind of love and hospitality. There was always a treat(M&M’s) in the candy jar, bags of chips and ice cream in the freezer. If she knew you were coming, she would make an angel food cake.

Rose is survived by her husband, George; six children, Teresa (Gerard) Fischer, Jefferson City; William (Doris) Dorge, Jefferson City; James (Vicki) Dorge, Westphalia; Richard (Missy) Dorge, Jefferson City; Julie (Joseph) Buschjost; and Brian (Megan) Dorge; grandchildren: Matthew (Adie) Fischer, Jamie (Chris) Conklin, Dustin (Katie) Dorge, Craig (Hannah) Dorge, Natalie Dorge, Bruce Dorge, Jacob (Mandy) Dorge, Eric (Stephanie) Dorge, Brandon (Allison) Dorge, Maggie(fiancé Kevin Baclaan) Dorge, Amy Dorge, Jessica (Ethan) Wieberg, Jennifer (Cody) Horton, Jonathon(fiancé Adeline Thessen) Buschjost, Annabelle (Josh) Wieberg, Izzy Dorge and Jeremiah Dorge; and great-grandchildren: Hudson and Kate Fischer; Claire Conklin; Sawyer and Jaxon Dorge; Barrett and Elliott Dorge; Nani and Perry Dorge; Wyatt and Vada Dorge; Matthew and Vinny Dorge; Wade Baclaan; Millie, Georgia Rose and Ruthie Wieberg; Ellison, Evaliene, Leighton, and Linley Horton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a grandson, Cooper Dorge; brothers, Francis Knaebel, James Knaebel, and Art Knaebel; half-brother, Joseph Knaebel; and half-sisters, Helen Marie Scheppers, and Agnes Anne Hood.
