Rudolph Henry Rudy Gentges, 95, of Jefferson City, died Saturday, March 8, 2008, at the Golden Living Center. He was born on January 15, 1913, in Frankenstein, Mo, the son of Elix and Christina Jaegers Gentges. He was united in marriage on October 19, 1940, in Marshall, MO to Vida Cornelia Morris who survives at the home. Mr. Gentges was a United States veteran of the U.S. Navy and a veteran of World War II with the Merchant Marines/U.S. Coast Guard. Rudy was a self-employed contractor. He was a member of St. Martin Catholic Church, Eagles, Elks Club, Good Sams Club, Mid-America Campers, and the Fifty Plus Club. He enjoyed fishing, camping, and traveling. Other survivors include: one daughter, Nancy Backes, St. Martins; one son and one daughter-in-law, John and Henrietta Gentges, Sr., St. Martins; nine grandchildren, Karla Pettigrew; Greg Backes; Tim Backes; Lisa Michel; John Gentges, Jr.; Julie Clingman; Gerald Jerry Gentges; Janice Houser; Jodie Maddox; 24 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandson. He was precede in death by his parents; one great granddaughter, Megan Backes; one great grandson, Nicholas Pettigrew; two brothers, Hugo Gentges; Leo Gentges; one sister, Rose Mulvill; and one son-in-law, Carl Backes. Mass of Christian Burial will be 12 Noon Wednesday, March 12, 2008, at St. Martin Catholic Church with the Rev. Edwin A Schmidt, Rev. Brendan Doyle, and Rev. Joseph Hoi officiating. Burial with military honors will be in St. Martin Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be 10 a.m.-12 Noon Wednesday at the church.
