Ruth “Ruthie” Marie Scott, 88, of Jefferson City, passed away on Monday, June 8, 2026, at Capital Region Medical Center.
She was born on April 15, 1938, in California, Missouri, the daughter of John Harold and Mildred Marie (Andres) Duvall.
She was a 1956 graduate of California High School.
She was married to Martin J. Schwartze in 1958 in Vienna, Missouri. She was married to Kenneth E. Scott on September 27, 1980, in Jefferson City who preceded her in death on March 10, 2009.
Ruth retired as a customer service manager from Modern Business Systems/IKON in January 2003 after 33 years of service.
Ruth, lovingly referred to as Ruthie by many family members and friends, enjoyed spending time with her family, bowling, playing cards, collecting depression glass and antiques, working on jigsaw puzzles, and fishing at the Lake of the Ozarks.
She is survived by five children, Glenda Smith, Sedalia; Diane (Doug) Dulle, Bentonville, AR; Barb (Steve) Shimmens, Jefferson City; Steve Schwartze, Jefferson City; and Brenda (Kevin) Petty, Hartsburg; two step-sons Dan (Vicki) Scott, Jefferson City, and Dennis (Mary Jo) Scott, Rocky Mount; nine grandchildren, William Keele, Barry Keele, Brandi (Tony) Lakin, Matt (Morgann) Dulle, Garrett (Erin) Dulle, Jennifer (Brad) McBaine, Adam (Leah) Shimmens, Blue Jay Petty, and Aubrey Petty; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; six siblings, Sonny (Twilla) Duvall; Rosalyn Heidbreder; Jim (Cheryl) Duvall; Betty (Dan) Emmerich; Dean (Lisa) Duvall, all of California; Dan (Cathy) Duvall, Florissant; two brothers-in-law, Carl Meisenheimer, California; and Jerry Higgins, Tipton; two sisters-in-law, Carol (John) Butler, Jefferson City; and Shirley Scott, Mountain View; brothers-in-law Dave (Vickey) Scott and Rick (Sheila) Scott, both of Jefferson City, along with many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three siblings, John Allen Duvall, Juanita Meisenheimer, Kathy Higgins; brother-in-law Alan Heidbreder; stepson Donnie Scott; and brother-in-law Don Scott.
Visitation will be 9:30-11:00 a.m. Friday, June 12, 2026, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Matthew Flatley officiating.
Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
