Stella Marie Herman Block, 85, of St. Martins, died Monday, September 8, 2009, at Capital Region Medical Center. She was born on September 23, 1923, in Saline County, Mo, the daughter of Joseph and Emma Marie Wyelser Herman. She was united in marriage on November 27, 1947, in St. Martins, to Robert Edward Block. He preceded her in death on June 2, 2002. A homemaker all her life, Stella was a member of St. Martin Catholic Church, 50+ Club at St. Martin Catholic Church, and the St. Martin Ladies Sodality. Stella was a chair member of the St. Martin Catholic Church Centennial. She was a volunteer for many years with the St. Martin Catholic School where she also served as a cook for ten years. Stella greatly enjoyed quilting. Survivors include: three sons and two daughters-in-law, David and Pam Block, Jamestown; Wayne and Janet Block, Sussex, Wis.; Gary Block (fiancé Michelle Martin), California; six grandchildren, Daniel Block, Michelle Block, Nathan Block, Lisa Block, John Block, Jason Block; two sisters, Sarah Schell, Dallas TX; Dolores Wright, Columbia; and one sister-in-law, Pauline Herman, Centertown. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; four sisters, Venita Herman, Henrietta Herman, Alma Lueckenhoff and Delia Kramer; and three brothers, Edwin, Killian, and Joseph Herman. Mass of Christian Burial will be 12 Noon Friday, September 11, 2009, at St. Martin Catholic Church with the Rev. Edwin A. Schmidt officiating. Burial will be in St. Martin Catholic Cemetery.
