The Reverend Ferdinand Calvin Bonn, 83, of Las Vegas, NV, died Thursday, June 21, 2007, at Delmar Gardens of Green Valley in Henderson, NV. He was born on Nov. 29, 1923, in Belleville, IL, the son of the late Anton A. and Marie M. Stippey Bonn. Father Bonn attended the elementary schools of the Cathedral of St. Peter, St. Mary, St. John, all in Belleville, IL, and the Holy Name School in St. Louis. He attended Cathedral Latin High School and St. Louis Preparatory Seminary where he graduated in 1941. He received his Philosophy degree from St. Louis Preparatory Seminary in 1945, and completed his Theology program at Kenrick Seminary, St. Louis, MO, in 1949. Father Bonn was ordained to the Holy Priesthood on June 7, 1949, at Kenrick Seminary by Joseph Cardinal Ritter of St. Louis to serve the Archdiocese of St. Louis. His first assignment was as Assistant Pastor of Holy Family Church in St. Louis on Sept. 1, 1949. He was appointed a part-time teacher at St. Marys High School in St. Louis on Aug. 30, 1949. He was appointed Assistant Pastor of St. George Catholic Church in Linn, MO, on April 12, 1954, and was there when the church became part of the newly formed Jefferson City Diocese in 1956. He was appointed pastor of Our Lady of Snows Catholic Church in Marys Home, MO, on Sept. 3, 1957. He was appointed pastor of St. John Catholic Church in Clear Creek, and of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Clifton City on Sept. 3, 1963. He was appointed pastor of St. Lawrence Church in St. Elizabeth, MO, on July 2, 1968. While pastor of St. Lawrence Church, he was appointed Administrator of St. Anthony Parish in St. Anthony, MO, on Oct. 1, 1973. He was appointed pastor of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church at Lake Ozark, MO, on July 15, 1978 where he served until his retirement on Jan. 15, 1986. Father Bonn was appointed Conference Master for the Sisters of Christian Charity Community in St. Louis on Sept. 26, 1950. He was appointed Ordinary Confessor for the School Sisters of Notre Dame at Sacred Heart Convent in Rich Fountain, MO, on June 1, 1954. In addition, he was appointed on May 4, 1955, as Extraordinary Confessor and Conference Master for the School Sisters of Notre Dame at Most Pure Heart of Mary Convent in Chamois, MO. He served these two religious communities until August 28, 1957. He was appointed as Ordinary Confessor to the Sisters of St. Mary Hospital, Jefferson City, on Sept. 3, 1957, for three years. Father Bonn served the Jefferson City Diocese as the first Director of Vocations and as Diocesan Director for Rural Life. He celebrated his Silver Jubilee of Ordination on June 11, 1974, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in St. Elizabeth, MO, where he was pastor at the time. He celebrated his Golden Jubilee on June 7, 1999, in Las Vegas, NV, where he resided until his death. Survivors include two nieces and three nephews, Paula Bonn, St. Louis; Nancy Bonn-Winkler and her husband, Greg, Ellisville, MO; and Richard Bonn, Kansas City, MO; one great-niece, Sara Winkler; and one sister-in-law, Magdalene Amelia Bonn, St. Louis. He was preceded in death by one brother, Anthony A. Bonn. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Friday, June 29, 2007, at the Cathedral of Saint Joseph, Jefferson City, with the Most Reverend John R. Gaydos, Presider, and priests of the Jefferson City Diocese and of the Archdiocese of St. Louis, Concelebrants. Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery, Belleville, Illinois. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday, June 28th, at the Cathedral of Saint Joseph, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Additional visitation will be 9-10 a.m. Friday at the Cathedral.
