Thurman Leo Mr. Tharp Lumber Kempker, 67, of Jefferson City, died Friday, July 22, 2005, at his residence. He was born on Sept. 1, 1937 in Marys Home, MO, the son of Edward H. and Emma Mary Hunepohl Kempker. He was married on June 14, 1958 in Brinktown, MO to Esther Margaret Otto who survives at the home. He received his education at St. Peter Catholic School. Mr. Kempker was manager and co-owner of Tharp Lumber Company, Jefferson City, for forty-three years until his retirement in 1995. He was a life-long member of St. Peter Catholic Church; an active volunteer with Hospice of Jefferson City & Mid-Missouri where he served as handyman, transported patients for treatments, and played Santa Claus. He enjoyed woodworking and rummage sales. Other survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Coleen and Kenny Moses, Jefferson City; and Leila and Michael Cole, Vandalia, MO; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Gerald and Rita Kempker, Jefferson City; and Virgil Kempker, Jefferson City; nine grandchildren, Stephanie Borgmeyer, Amanda Mitchell, Amber Moses, Jennifer Colvin, Brandon Kempker, and John Kempker, all of Jefferson City; and Sheridan Cole, Anthony Cole, and Madalyn Cole, all of Vandalia; three great-grandsons, Tate Borgmeyer, Kyle Mitchell, and Parker Mitchell, all of Jefferson City; and two brothers and their wives, Omar and Louise Kempker, Jefferson City; and Gilbert and Carol Kempker, New London, MO. He was preceded in death by one daughter-in-law, Laurel Helene Kempker. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 26, 2005, at St. Peter Catholic Church with the Rev. James M. Smith officiating. Entombment will be in Resurrection Chapel Mausoleum. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Monday, July 25th, at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Jefferson City & Mid-Missouri, 601 E.
