Victor V. Smith, 88, of Jefferson City, died Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2005, at St. Marys Health Center. He was born on Oct. 1, 1916 in Columbia, MO, the son of Willis and Frankie Strode Smith. He was married on June 14, 1938 in Jefferson City to Lucille Helen Abel who survives at the home. A 1935 graduate of Hickman High School in Columbia, Mr. Smith served with the United States Air Force during World War II. He was employed in earlier years with Central Dairy, and later as a pipe fitter with Missouri Power and Light Company for twenty-three years. He was a member of St. Joseph Cathedral; Mens Sodality; Roy Sone Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1003; and a former member of the Board of Directors of Cole County Volunteer Fire Protection District. Other survivors include one son and his wife, Dr. Mickey C. and Mary Smith, Oxford, Miss.; two grandchildren, Dr. Phillip Smith, Germantown, Tenn.; and Rebecca Smith, Columbus, Miss.; three great-grandchildren, Jason Smith, Mallory Smith, and Daniel Smith, all of Germantown, Tenn.; two brothers-in-law, Fred Abel and his wife, Ruby, Wichita, Kansas; and William Eggen, Jefferson City; and three sisters-in-law, Rosemary Henderson and Betty Pratt, both of Jefferson City; and Georgia Abel, Pasadena, Texas. He was preceded in death by one sister, Ruth Fay; and three brothers, Harry Smith; Charles Smith; and Roy Smith. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 16, 2005, at the Cathedral of Saint Joseph with the Rev. Robert A. Kurwicki officiating. Entombment with military honors will be in Resurrection Mausoleum.
