Webster Theodore Buddy Ortbals, Sr., 86, of Osage City, died Sunday, January 20, 2008, at his sons home in Linn. He was born on February 1, 1921, in Meta, the son of John Joseph and Mary Bertha Bax Ortbals. He was married on September 19, 1946, in Taos, MO to Shirley Mae Kresl. She survives at the home. Mr. Ortbals worked as a mechanic for Mid State Motor/Studebaker, Commonwealth/Riley Chevrolet, T & I Services, Freds Taxi Service, Von Hoffmann Press Inc., and Schanzmeyer Ford. In his retirement he worked for St. Marys Health Center. He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church and the National Rifle Association. He also volunteered for the Taos Fire Department. Buddy was an avid hunter, loved to garden, and enjoyed Cardinal baseball. Other survivors include: three sons and three daughters-in-law, Webster and Janet Ortbals, Russellville; Thomas and Marian Ortbals, Linn; Phillip and Carol Ortbals, Taos; one daughter, Pamela Hofmann, Taos; ten grandchildren and spouses, Andrew and Shelly Ortbals; Joshua Ortbals; Leah Boyer; T.J. and Staci Ortbals; Danielle Kellogg and fianc Jeff Howard; Matthew Ortbals; Adam and Katie Ortbals; Jason Ortbals; Ashley Hofmann and fianc Matthew Telmer; and Michael Hofmann; five great-grandchildren, Bridgette Hicks; Madisen Boyer; Quinten Ortbals; Cole Ortbals; and Alyssa Ortbals; one brother, Vincent Ortbals, St. Louis; and one sister, Loraine Otto, Linn. He was preceded in death by his parents. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Friday, January 25, 2008, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church with the Rev. J. David Maher officiating. Burial will be in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home with a rosary at 7 p.m. Additional visitation will 9-10 a.m. Friday at the church.
