Wilburn Andrew Clarkston

Wilburn Andrew Clarkston, 77, of Jefferson City, passed away Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at Jefferson City Manor.

Wilburn was born on July 20, 1949, in Tuscumbia, Missouri to John Wesley and Johanna “Jennie” (Holzer) Clarkston.

A 1968 graduate of Eugene High School, he received a bachelor’s degree from Lincoln University.

He was a teacher at Vienna High School and coached girls’ basketball. He then served on the faculty at Fatima High School where he taught history and coached both girls’ and boys’ basketball. Later in life, he worked doing construction and roofing.

He was a member of the American Legion.

Wilburn was an athlete all his life. As a student, he played baseball and basketball for Cole RV in Eugene, Missouri. In college, he played baseball for Lincoln University. He played slow pitch softball for Mid-State Oil Company when they won six consecutive championships in a row and were honored by being inducted into the Missouri State Sports Hall of Fame and the Missouri Softball Association Hall of Fame for their excellence in playing softball. He played for the St. Louis Merchants Softball Team when they were runner up for the National Championship in 1981. In 1985, he played with the Dugout Lounge Softball Team when they won the USSA Runner Up title.

For the past fifteen years, he has never missed a night traveling all over the state watching high school teams play basketball.

Survivors include two brothers, William (Helen) Clarkston; and Darrell (Joyce) Clarkston; a sister-in-law, Rita Clarkston; and a brother-in-law, Rowland Doerhoff, all of Jefferson City; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by eight siblings, Evelyn (Alfred) Thoenen, Lawrence (Helen Marie) Clarkston, Louise Weed, James Clarkston, Charles Clarkston, Mary Jane Doerhoff, Ruth Clarkston, and Charyl Clarkston.

Visitation will be 2:00-4:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at Trimble Funeral Homes – Jefferson City.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Jefferson City Animal Shelter.
