I moved into central Missouri in 1997. Leroy was running a horse ad in the Ad Tracker newspaper, so I went over to his place to see his horses. We started hanging out; going to horse sales together. We had a common interest in horses; never was much air in our conversations. He was my first horse-buddy I made when I moved out here and didn’t know anybody else to hang out with. We went to FtWo in 2003 to the NCHA futurity. It was always hard for him to get away because of his auctioneering jobs thru the week. One morning on our trip we walked out of the motel and saw that the red Buick we traveled in had been crapped all over by a big flock of starlings. That was a long running joke between us; it always made us laugh together.
Carie and family our thoughts are with you at this time. We send our deepest sympathy and prayers to you! Linda and Dan Gordon

I knew Leroy Blackburn when we were kids attending Scrivner Church of Christ in the mid 1950s. I remember going home with him from church one Sunday and we played all afternoon until Church that evening. He was pretty quiet and I’m a little surprised he became an auctioneer. He liked sports and so we played a lot of baseball that afternoon. His mom was a good cook and I remember plenty of fresh corn on the cob. At that time, parents worried a lot about their children contracting polio. It was thought that if kids got too hot or tired playing they might get it. It was a hot summer and my mother told me not to play too hard at the Blackburns—I didn’t pay much attention. Even then, I think he had a horse and we may have ridden it. It is a bit of a coincidence that another Scrivner Church of Christ member, Roger “Cletus” Payne, much older, passed away very recently. I remember them both. God Bless Them and my condolences go to the families. Alan Wright, Pawleys Island, SC.
I’ve known Leroy for many years. He came to work at Div of Emp Security almost as a kid but he was already married to Linda. I was his tax man and we remained friends through thick and thin. Leroy was one of kind and I want the family to know that although I had not been able to visit Leroy this last year because either I was locked down or he was because of the virus, I thought of him often. The last time I visited him I asked him if he knew who I was, he replied “yes, you’re Garth Brooks”. Country Western to the very bone. My sympathy to Carie and Cory and the extended family.
I remember when Leroy started working at Employment Security in the early ’60’s. Leroy always was a pleasure to be around, and work with. We attended the wedding of Leroy and Linda, at the little church on Dix road. Leroy was a true gentleman, and will be missed by family and friends!
To Carrie and Cory and all of their families we extend our deepest sympathy at your time of loss. A very nice man wearing a nice smile when you see him. May your family memories keep his spirit alive in your hearts. God Bless each of you.
