William Robison "Bill" Barnthouse, 91, of Jefferson City, died Thursday, August 8, 2013, at Heisinger Bluffs. He was born on November 9, 1921, in St. Louis, the son of the late Edwin R. and Laura G. Franz Barnthouse. He was married on October 11, 1947, in Jefferson City to Genevieve L. "June" Nacke who survives at the home. A graduate of St. Peter High School in Jefferson City, and the recipient of a Bachelor of Arts degree from Columbia College, Mr. Barnthouse retired as Colonel and Director of Personnel with the Adjutant General Staff of the Missouri National Guard and the Washington, D.C., National Guard. He was a World War II Army veteran serving in the China-Burma-India Theater. Mr. Barnthouse held memberships with the Cathedral of Saint Joseph; Dan C. Coppen Fourth Degree Assembly, Knights of Columbus; Knights of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem; CBI Association; Veterans of Foreign Wars; American Legion; and the National Guard Association. Other survivors include two children, William J. Barnthouse, Denver, Colo.; and Melanie (Paul) Schifferdecker, Four Seasons, Mo.; seven grandchildren, Joseph Barnthouse, Jonathan Barnthouse, James Barnthouse, Elizabeth (Anton) Engelmann, John (Lauren) Schifferdecker, Katie Laura Schifferdecker, and Joe (Hanika) Schifferdecker; and five great-grandchildren, Grace, Henry, and Stella Rose Engelmann; and Barrett and Vivienne Schifferdecker. He was preceded in death by four sisters, Mary Margaret Barnthouse; Frances Rose; Margaret Mary Barnthouse; and Terese Flexsenhar; and one brother, Edwin R. Barnthouse, II. Mass of Christian Burial will be 12:30 p.m. Saturday, August 17, 2013, at the Cathedral of Saint Joseph with the Rev. Msgr. Robert A. Kurwicki officiating. Entombment with military honors will be in Resurrection Cemetery Mausoleum. Visitation will be 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 17th, at the Cathedral. Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Memorials are suggested to the Cathedral of Saint Joseph, 2305 W. Main St., Jefferson City, MO 65109.
