Winnie was always so gracious to Stella and my family. He would bring back an errant pet, deliver heavy packages or help out if he noticed there was help needed, and watched out for our homes in a quiet, rural community in a neighborly way. Most of all, his warm, friendly greetings and talk will be missed! Warmest regards and prayers for all of your family, Doris.
You are in the thoughts of the California cousins at this time of your loss.

Doris and family, so sorry to hear of the passing of Winnie! He was a great guy and enjoyed having him come visit us at the ceramic shop! He kept us entertained!
It is the Eve of Uncle Winnie coming to rest on the beautiful farm near Vienna. I enjoyed the 1 mile ride from the highway to the house overlooking the scenic creek bottoms. Where have all the years gone. Meeting Jerry dating and later marrying the love of his life Aunt Doris. Spending part of the summer in Jennings, MO, with you both and Cuz Doug (Jay would be coming later) playing slow pitch softball and getting a talking from the priest for bouncing a ball off the church wall during his mass. Riding in the moving rental truck to Jefferson City. A trip to Clarinda, IA to provide the music for our wedding reception. Recently, being by my side in Atlanta going to urgent care. Letting us hunt deer and turkey through the years. All the great meals and eggs and bacon for breakfast. Always having a joke or story to share sprinkled in with pickin and grinnin. Quiet times when we’d just talk. And there was always a card game. And as we say ‘until we see you again, Uncle Winnie’ tomorrow, please watch over us through these trying times. It was an honor and a pleasure to know you and spend great times with you and often with Aunt Dori. A favorite of mine …you guys sitting on the swing watching the sun go down from front porch as we come full circle down on the farm. Homer
Doris and your family I learned of Winnie passing last night. I was sad to hear the news. I worked with Winnie at JCPD. He was a fine officer. When I came there and he met me he welcome this city girl. I enjoyed going on calls with him, I knew if Winnie was with me there wouldn’t be any problem. His smile was enchanting. I am forever grateful to spend 11 years of my life working and enjoying Winnie company. Heartfelt love to you and your family. Love Rose “RD”#47.
We can’t truly express how much Uncle Winnie/Jerry meant to both of us. We will always remember his jokes, funny sayings, advice and friendship. We will miss his music, patience, sense of fun and goodness. He was a true gentle man. God bless you Aunt Doris, Doug, Jay and families ߘ¢. Stephen and Nancy Schulte
Doris: so sorry to hear of Winford’s passing. He was a great guy with a heart of Gold. I worked with Winnie for 27 years and always new when i was on the street and Winnie was your back-up you would have your back covered. I have many stories of our time together on J.C.P.D. He was always fair to everyone. He was a first class officer. The memory of the so called dead Deer on Highway 50 west was a classic. Winnie got out of the patrol car walked toward the Deer ,it got up and started chasing him around the Police car. We got a great laugh when Winnie told what happened on that call. He will be missed by all who knew him. Prayers for you and your whole family. May God hold you in his hands and be your comfort. Ray & Linda Bledsoe
We send our deepest sympathy to you Doris, Doug, Jay and your families. We can’t truly express how much Jerry meant to all of us. We loved his sense or humor and him just being a great uncle and brother-in-law. He will be missed and now he’s up fishing, playing cards, telling stories to Frank and all of our loved ones. He will be well taken care of and he will be watching over all of us. God bless you Doris, Doug, Jay and families. With love, Bernadine Pope and children
My thoughts and prayers are with you,Jay,Doug and the family. Jerry was a very special person, friend and man. He will be missed very much. My brother Robert Watters will be watching over and taking care of Jerry for all of us. Kimberly Watters/Storjohann- from Davenport
Doris, Doug, Jay and family, We just finished watching the ceremony for Jerry. It was beautiful. Both of you sons gave a wonderful tribute to your Dad. We are so glad that Jerry took the time to locate Dick. He had to go through the lien and guess from there. He sent us a Christmas card asking if Dick was the one who was in the Navy with him. We got together quite a few times and had lots of fun and now good memories. We went to Mackinaw Island when the Watters and Jerry and Doris came to Michigan. Jerry wanted to eat in the Grand Hotel on the balcony until we saw the prices, we decided to just order drinks. Jerry’s toast was the “Frog on the Mantel Piece” and the” Big Red Bull”. Needless to say, he had all those aristocrats in stitches. We are praying for all of you and hope those good memories will get you through this time.
Doris,Doug, Jay, So sorry to hear of the loss of Uncle Jerry/Winnie. I remember his patience in trying to teach this child (me), who has absolutely no rhythm, to play guitar. Let’s just say my family was very excited when I decided to give that up. He sure made it look easy. I was blessed to have known him, sending you my love. Linda
Our deepest sympathy and sorrow For your loss. You are in our hearts. Please reach out to us anytime. We love you so much. Dave & Helen
We all loved him at the PD. I remember thinking he always seemed happier and healthier in his years of retirement.
